There’s no nicer feeling than slipping into fresh, crisp bed linen at the end of the day. Whether it’s hot or chilly, keeping your linen bedding clean, breathable, and comfortable is key to a great night’s sleep. Here’s how to care for your linen so it stays fresh and inviting all year round.
Choose Breathable, Natural Fibres
Flax linen is naturally temperature-regulating, it keeps you cool in summer and cosy in winter. Unlike synthetic fabrics, flax linen bedding allows airflow, absorbs moisture, and only gets softer with every wash. This makes it perfect for your year-round comfort.

Wash Weekly for Freshness
It might not be the favourite household job to do but washing your bed linen once a week is an important one. This helps to remove sweat, dust, and bacteria, to name a few, while keeping your linen bedding soft and breathable. This is even more important for people with asthma or other allergies.
You might decide more frequent washing is needed, because of allergies, illness, excessive sweating etc. You can keep your linen sheets clean between washing by showering before bed, removing makeup, not eating in bed or keeping your pets off (We will not get away with that in our house!).
Air Out Your Bed & Sheets for Lasting Freshness
Airing out your bed linen regularly helps remove trapped moisture, reduce dust build-up, and maintain a crisp, fresh feel. Here’s how:
Pull back your duvet for around 30 minutes or more each morning to let trapped heat and moisture escape. Some people call this unmaking the bed.
Shake out your top sheet to release dust and improve airflow.
Open windows to allow fresh air to circulate in the bedroom. Even in winter, just a few minutes of fresh air helps remove humidity and odours.
Keep Humidity & Odours at Bay
In summer: Linen absorbs excess moisture, keeping you cool and dry. To prevent humidity build-up, keep your bedroom well-ventilated.
In winter: Linen’s moisture-wicking properties help prevent mustiness, but if you’re using a thick duvet, airing out your linen bedding regularly is key.
Lightly mist your bed linen with a linen spray (lavender, eucalyptus, or citrus essential oils work well).
